The Historic Allouez Society was established in 2007 to promote historic research and preservation of the history of Allouez, Wisconsin (also known as Shantytown) near Green Bay, Wisconsin.
The first annual meeting of the Historic Allouez Society was held on October 23, 2008. The Society is a non-profit society established under the IRS code 501(c)3 and is directed by a volunteer Board of Directors and Committee persons with a desire to preserve the rich history of Allouez, Wisconsin.
Allouez is named after Father Claude-Jean Allouez, a Jesuit Missionary from France, who established the first permanent mission along the Fox River in 1671.
Several homes, businesses and historic sites remain in the area. The Society is charged with identifying these historic treasures and identifying methods and means of preserving them for future posterity.
